PageOneLit.com: : Where did you grow up and was reading and writing a part
of your life? Who were your earliest influences and why?
Patt Fero: I grew up in South Carolina. My
daddy was a Baptist preacher so we moved about every 3 years to a different
church. My Mother was the ultimate “church lady”, and I have to say was the
earliest and still the biggest influence in my life. She passed away before
I got published. She was so excited about my book and I wanted her so much
to be able to see the finished project. My mother “Amazing Grace” was a
“real” Queen. Since childhood, reading and writing have been a part of my
life. I used to make diary entries daily and was a pretty good student. I
eventually majored in English.
PageOneLit.com: : Why do you write?
Patt Fero: I think everyone has a story or
two in their head. I worked in Corporate Management for over 20 years and
finally decided to leave the rat race and take a stab at writing. Writing to
me is a total get away.
PageOneLit.com: : Describe your title www.Queenmotorhome.com as it relates
to the book. What is the secret S.O.S. code?
Patt Fero: People always ask if there are
characters and happenings from real life in my book. I don’t think one can
write a novel without having something from real life sneak in. The title of
my book came from a real life experience. When things weren’t going that
great on a given day, my friends of over 40 years would phone each other and
say: “OK, this is Queenmotorhome.com, and it is time to “get out of dodge”.
This was a real fantasy to just chuck it all and run away.
PageOneLit.com: : www.Queenmotorhome.com is about to long-lasting friends,
Leslie and Liz -- Who are these women and what adventure are they own?
Patt Fero: Leslie and Liz are best friends
dating back to college. They’ve gone through a lot together. They have what
most women their ages want and think brings happiness: financial security,
nice homes, a country club membership, nice cars and lots of “things”. But
all this “’stuff” did not bring happiness which brewed dissatisfaction in
their baby boomer years, so they took the major leap one day and ran away in
a motor home. There were many a learning curve on the road, motor home
operations, road safety, etc. They were seeking to simplify their lives and
ride out into the sunset to see the world. Let’s face it, in the crazy world
we live in today, this is an appealing thought to lots of people!
PageOneLit.com: : Do you own a motor home? What is your most memorable road
trip? Any personal road trip experiences in www.Queenmotorhome.com?
Patt Fero: I do not own a motor home and
never have. But it is a real dream of mine and my husband to do what Leslie
and Liz did…chuck it all and ride! I had to do a lot of research about motor
home operations and lingo. I befriended a salesman at a local RV lot who
helped me tremendously, in addition to reading RV manuals and doing research
online.
PageOneLit.com: : www.Queenmotorhome.com would make a great film - If
Hollywood called and asked you to cast the movie, who would you cast and
why?
Patt Fero: Many of my readers frequently
comment on the same. They are always encouraging me to submit it to the
motion picture industry. As I wrote, I envisioned Candice Bergman as Leslie,
and Dianne Keaton as Liz. I think their personalities are a good fit!
PageOneLit.com: : What do you hope to achieve with www.Queenmotorhome.com?
Patt Fero: I want my readers to adopt
Leslie and Liz and continue to follow them in their life adventures and
trials through sequels. I have written two sequels and have a third one in
process, but I wanted to market heavily my first novel before additional
releases.
PageOneLit.com: : What was the last book you read?
Patt Fero: Time is a River by Mary Alice
Monroe.
PageOneLit.com: : What's next?
Patt Fero: Well, two things. Hopefully, I
will find that special literary agent who believes in me and my writing and
will get my book published by a major publisher. The next adventure might be
their travels to their 40th high school reunion.
PageOneLit.com: : Do you have any hobbies? What are they? How do they
enhance your writing?
Patt Fero: I love the beach and we live
only about 4 hours away, so we can go often. And of course, there’s nothing
like reading a good book at the beach. I also play golf.
